NY Stops Drug Flushing At 5 Health Care Facilities

Law360, New York (January 12, 2010, 6:06 PM EST) -- New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has reached agreements with five upstate health care providers that require them to stop disposing of drugs in sinks and toilets, a step that will improve the quality of drinking water in New York City.

The five hospitals and nursing homes, located within the New Year City watershed in Delaware and Putnam counties, must begin sending the pharmaceuticals to safe waste management for disposal. Cuomo touted the agreements as unprecedented in an announcement Tuesday.
