Judge Rejects Calif. Water-Use Pact Over Debt Limits

Law360, New York (January 15, 2010, 5:20 PM EST) -- A California state court judge has ruled to invalidate a landmark 2003 water-use pact designed to reduce the state's reliance on the Colorado River, raising new questions about California's water supply.

Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Roland Candee's ruling, released Thursday, affirmed a tentative decision issued in December in a proceeding seeking validation of a dozen contracts that make up the pact — part of the Quantification Settlement Agreement over Colorado River water rights.
