Spitzer Blasts Report On Easing Regulations

Law360, New York (December 1, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A report calling for U.S. authorities to relax some financial regulations and limit how states can pursue civil and criminal investigations in order to jumpstart U.S. competition has caught the wrath of New York state's attorney general Eliot Spitzer.

Spitzer, who has spearheaded a series of investigations, has strongly criticized the recommendations of the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation in its report released Thursday that urged for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and Congress to restrict how and when regulators can go after financial institutions....
