Canadian Sunoco Retailers Hit Suncor Over Rebranding

Law360, New York (January 20, 2010, 5:45 PM EST) -- Suncor Energy Inc.'s decision to eliminate the Sunoco brand in Canada following its merger with Petro-Canada has sparked a CA$200 million ($191 million) proposed class action that accuses the oil company of failing to comply with franchise law.

According to a statement of claim filed Monday in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Suncor plans to terminate the retailer franchise agreements of all 300 of its independent Sunoco retailers in Ontario, the only province with Sunoco gas stations.
