Shell Joins With Cosan In $12B Brazil Ethanol Project

Law360, New York (February 1, 2010, 6:43 PM EST) -- Shell International Petroleum Co. Ltd. has unveiled plans to form a $12 billion joint venture with Brazilian sugar and biofuel giant Cosan SA Industria e Comercio, a move the oil conglomerate says will result in the formation of one of the world's largest ethanol producers.

The deal, announced Monday, will create a joint venture in Brazil for the production of ethanol, sugar and power, as well as the supply, distribution and retail of transportation fuels, the companies said.
