Patent-Holding Co. Sues Sears Over Payment Patent

Law360, New York (December 7, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Chicago, Ill.-based patent-holding company has geared up for an aggressive fight over its payment transaction patent by launching an infringement lawsuit against Sears Holding Corp.

Card Activation Technologies Inc., a unit of MedCom USA Inc., lodged the suit in the U.S. District for the Northern District of Illinois last week, putting pressure on Sears to enter into a licensing agreement for its technology or prepare for a battle in court.
