By Caroline Simson (March 22, 2022, 7:04 PM EDT) -- A controversial linguistics methodology could be on the verge of having a moment now that it's gotten caught up in a case pending before the U.S. Supreme Court, which asks the justices to resolve whether federal courts can order discovery for private commercial arbitration abroad.

The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on Wednesday in the case involving an American unit of German auto parts maker ZF Group, and it's expected that the methodology, called corpus linguistics, will be up for debate. Corpus linguistics involves analyzing large bodies of texts to uncover linguistic patterns of use.
