Supporters Rally Behind Independent CFPA

Law360, New York (February 10, 2010, 2:05 PM EST) -- Federal and state lawmakers are ramping up support for the inclusion of an independent Consumer Financial Protection Agency in financial reform legislation being drafted in the U.S. Senate, even as Republican opposition to the proposed CFPA threatens to derail the final bill.

House Financial Services Committee chairman Barney Frank, D-Mass., issued a statement Tuesday encouraging Senate Banking Committee chairman Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., to continue fighting against industry and political opposition to the CFPA.
