Slow Progress For E.U. Telecom Competition: Report

Law360, New York (December 11, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A globally competitive telecom industry will remain out of reach for the European Union unless national telecom regulators receive a much-needed power boost, according to a report jointly released Monday by the European Competitive Telecommunications Association and Jones Day.

The report, which evaluated the progress of 17 E.U. countries on implementing rules meant to open the industry to competition, said that despite three years’ time since the European Framework for Telecoms Regulatory came into force, many countries have failed to fully adopt the 2002 rules....
