SoCal Edison Pays $2.8M To Settle Wildfire Claims

Law360, New York (February 12, 2010, 3:33 PM EST) -- Southern California Edison Co. has paid $2.8 million to settle claims that its power transmission line started the 2002 Birch Forest Fire, which destroyed more than 2,600 acres of the Inyo National Forest.

The U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of California confirmed Thursday that SoCal Edison had wired the money to the U.S. Department of Justice, a spokeswoman for his office said. The settlement ends a suit brought by the U.S. government in December 2008 in the same district.
