New Jersey Tackles Transgender Discrimination

Law360, New York (December 12, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Stirred by an ugly court battle, a bill in New Jersey that seeks to amend state law to protect transgender individuals from discrimination on the job is gaining steam.

The bill, which was introduced last January, has made its way to the Assembly Judiciary Committee for a second reading after undergoing certain revisions.

“This bill would amend the ‘Law Against Discrimination’ (LAD) to specify that gender identity or expression is a protected class against discrimination,” a committee statement read.
