Williams-Sonoma Hits Target With Trademark Suit

Law360, New York (December 12, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Williams-Sonoma Inc. has taken on retail giant Target Corp. with a federal trademark and copyright infringement lawsuit, accusing its larger rival of conspiring to rip off its designs for everything from lamps to Christmas stockings.

According to the suit, Target systematically copies Williams-Sonoma by giving infringing design specifications to vendors, then using its buying power to force them to offer indemnity agreements protecting Target from liability.
