Defense Dept. Sued Over Mandatory Anthrax Vaccine

Law360, New York (December 13, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A group of unnamed Defense Department employees has sued three government agencies for requiring that U.S. armed forces members and civilian defense workers get anthrax vaccinations.

The proposed class action lawsuit, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., alleges, among other things, that the vaccine was ineffective and sometimes caused serious side effects. This October, however, the Defense Department announced that it would resume its mandatory anthrax inoculation program for all military and civilian personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan and South Korea.
