DOJ Charges Guidant In Faulty Defibrillator Case

Law360, New York (February 25, 2010, 5:06 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Justice has formally filed criminal charges against Boston Scientific Corp. unit Guidant LLC, claiming the company concealed significant safety problems with some of its cardiac defibrillators in violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

Both the DOJ and Boston Scientific Corp. confirmed that a formal guilty plea agreement was expected to be filed with the court later. In November, Boston Scientific announced an agreement to resolve the charges involving a $296 million payment by the company.
