SEC To Beef Up NYC Office Amid Ponzi Fallout

Law360, New York (March 3, 2010, 5:45 PM EST) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is adding staff to its New York office, a move attorneys say will help the agency better enforce securities laws in the aftermath of Ponzi schemes that bilked investors out of billions.

An SEC spokesman declined to say how many people would be added, though Reuters reported 33 people would be added to the 360-strong New York contingent. The news outlet reported 18 people would be added to the enforcement side and 15 people to the examinations staff.
