Schapiro Says SEC Moving Past Missteps

Law360, New York (March 17, 2010, 4:50 PM EDT) -- Acknowledging high-profile regulatory mistakes from the past, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairwoman Mary Schapiro said Wednesday that the agency will break down information silos and beef up enforcement staff and technology next year in its attempt to regain public trust.

Schapiro said that the SEC has been steadily working to turn back five years of budget cuts under the Bush administration and restore sufficient funding, staff and authorities to the agency, in order to avoid letting more headline-grabbing regulatory failures happen, according to testimony before...
