Jump In Securities Class Action Deals Signals Rebound

Law360, New York (March 23, 2010, 11:05 PM EDT) -- The number and size of class action settlements rebounded in 2009, with settlements involving companies in the financial services industry leading the way, according to a report released Wednesday by consulting firm Cornerstone Research.

“This is the beginning of what we expect to see in upcoming years, unlike in 2008, which was an anomaly in terms of lower settlements,” said Laura Simmons, a professor at the College of William & Mary Mason School of Business and a Cornerstone senior adviser.
