Renovators Scramble To Prepare For Lead Paint Rule

Law360, New York (March 22, 2010, 6:31 PM EDT) -- By the end of April, home remodelers dealing with older buildings must be trained in lead paint handling, part of a new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rule that has renovators scrambling to get certified and some groups calling for more time.

The EPA's Renovation Repair and Painting Rule imposes new requirements on contractors, including remodelers, carpenters, plumbers, window installers and others, including a mandatory EPA certification in lead-safe work practices for those working on homes built before 1978.
