Walgreen To Cough Up $6M Over Wal-Born Claims

Law360, New York (March 23, 2010, 7:35 PM EDT) -- Pharmacy giant Walgreen Co. has agreed to pay nearly $6 million to settle the Federal Trade Commission's allegations that it deceptively marketed its Wal-Born supplements with baseless claims about the products' efficacy in preventing colds, fighting germs and boosting immune systems.

The FTC, which filed suit Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, said that Illinois-based Walgreen touted the similarity of its Wal-Born products to the cold-and-flu treatment sold by Airborne Inc., which settled similar FTC allegations in 2008.
