Transitions Optical Faces Antitrust Suit Over Lenses

Law360, New York (March 31, 2010, 5:46 PM EDT) -- A Washington-based eyewear retailer has accused Transitions Optical Inc. of using threats and exclusive agreements to monopolize the market for eyeglass lenses that darken in sunlight, using the company's recent settlement with the Federal Trade Commission against it in a new suit.

The complaint, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, claims that Transitions, a joint venture between PPG Industries Inc. and Essilor International SA, has used numerous anti-competitive tactics to keep potential rival photochromic lens treatments off the market...
