USPTO Agrees To Review Microsoft FAT Patent

Law360, New York (June 14, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has agreed to re-examine a Microsoft patent on the Windows file format, FAT.

The move could lead to the invalidation or narrowing of the controversial patent, which underpins the technology used to track where data is stored on a disk.

In April, the New York-based Public Patent Foundation filed a formal request with the USPTO to revoke Microsoft’s patent on its File Allocation System (FAT).
