8th Circ. Tosses American Express Franchisee Spat

Law360, New York (April 7, 2010, 6:02 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has dismissed a class action that accused Ameriprise Financial Services Inc. of breaching its contracts with franchisees by no longer allowing them to use the trademarks of American Express Co. after that company spun off Ameriprise in 2005.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit issued the ruling Tuesday, saying it was upholding the district court's dismissal of the case for the reasons in the district court's decision. The court did not elaborate further.
