House Ignites Probe Of Flame-Retardant Chemicals

Law360, New York (April 13, 2010, 2:19 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives' Energy and Commerce Committee is launching an investigation into the health, safety and environmental effects of popular flame-retardant chemicals made by ICL Performance Products LP, Chemtura Corp. and Albemarle Corp.

Committee chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., and Bart Stupak, D-Mich., chairman of the subcommittee on oversight and investigations, said Monday that they were increasingly concerned by the growing number of peer-reviewed studies suggesting a possible link between exposure to certain flame-retardant chemicals and neurological, developmental, fertility and reproductive problems in both humans...
