Environmental Litigation Unexpectedly Drops In 2010

Law360, New York (April 16, 2010, 4:56 PM EDT) -- Environmental litigation dropped slightly in the first quarter of 2010 compared with all four quarters last year, a trend that surprised industry attorneys who said they were seeing more enforcement actions and rulemaking challenges, among other types of lawsuits.

According to a Law360 analysis of court records, 161 environmental cases were filed in federal court in the first quarter of 2010, compared to 173 that were filed in the fourth quarter of 2009 — a decline of 7 percent.
