Ameriprise Race Discrimination Suit Trimmed

Law360, New York (April 20, 2010, 12:20 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has dismissed a Title VII claim in a three-count class action alleging Ameriprise Financial Services Inc. discriminated against black employees by paying them less than whites, denying them promotions and giving them poor evaluations.

Judge Richard Kyle of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota dismissed the disparate impact claim of Rosalind Brown, a former manager at Ameriprise, on Friday, saying she failed to exhaust her administrative remedies in front of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
