Congressman Accuses GOP's DeLay Of Meddling In Bacardi Trademark Suit

Law360 (June 21, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Texas Congressman has filed an official complaint with the House Committee on Standards and Ethics against House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, with charges that include a bribe from Bacardi USA in exchange for pushing a bill that would help in the liquor maker’s trademark dispute.

"A mountain of evidence indicates that Tom DeLay may be guilty of serious criminal acts including bribery, extortion, fraud, money laundering and abuse of power," Texas Representative Chris Bell said.
