ITC To Investigate Apple Over Touch-Screen Patents

Law360, New York (April 26, 2010, 2:14 PM EDT) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission said Monday that it was launching an investigation into Elan Microelectronics Corp.'s claims that Apple Inc. is importing and selling devices — including the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch — that infringe a patent covering touch-screen technology.

The ITC said it had voted to institute the probe of devices with multitouch-enabled touch pads and touch screens based on Elan's March 29 complaint, which alleged violations of Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 and asked for a permanent exclusion order...
