Massey Probe Heats Up Amid Calls For Safety Reform

Law360, New York (April 30, 2010, 4:06 PM EDT) -- As lawmakers stepped up their efforts to garner support from U.S. coal mine operators for the reform and oversight of mine safety, federal investigators reportedly began looking into the circumstances surrounding the April 5 explosion at Massey Energy Co.'s Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia.

The FBI is probing potential criminal negligence on the part of Massey in connection with the incident that left 29 miners dead, National Public Radio reported Friday, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.
