Steel-Making Industry Under Price-Fixing Scrutiny

Law360 (January 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a continuing European crackdown on price-fixing cartels in the steel-making industry, several calcium carbide suppliers were raided by the European Commission over suspected violations, the executive body said Thursday.

The European Commission said it carried out unannounced inspections at the premises of several calcium carbide suppliers in Austria, Germany, Slovakia and Slovenia on Jan. 16 and 17.

“The Commission has reason to believe that the companies concerned may have violated Article 81 of the EC Treaty, which prohibits practices such as price fixing,” the commission...
