Fisheries Service Agrees To Protect Abalone Habitat

Law360, New York (May 7, 2010, 5:27 PM EDT) -- The National Marine Fisheries Service has agreed to protect the habitat of the endangered black abalone in response to a lawsuit brought by the Center for Biological Diversity aimed at rescuing the once-abundant shellfish from the verge of extinction.

Under an agreement approved Thursday by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, the NMFS will determine whether it is prudent to designate critical habitat for black abalone on or before Sept. 20, 2010.
