US Bans New Offshore Drilling Permits

Law360, New York (May 6, 2010, 7:08 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government reportedly has halted all new permits for offshore drilling across the country until investigators issue initial recommendations, expected May 28, on the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

At a press conference in Houston on Thursday, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said any decision on whether to lift the moratorium on new permits would rest on what federal investigators find in their examination of the spill, the Associated Press reported.
