DOT Chief Says Toyota Still Under Scrutiny

Law360, New York (May 10, 2010, 2:50 PM EDT) -- Following a meeting with Toyota Motor Corp.'s president at the company's headquarters in Japan, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood reportedly has said the U.S. Department of Transportation will keep a sharp eye on the automaker to ensure it follows through with a promise to improve safety, noting that more fines could be imposed.

Speaking to reporters in Japan, LaHood said the Transportation Department was still combing through some 500,000 pages of Toyota documents to determine whether to impose additional fines on the company, according to the Associated...
