CFTC, SEC Joint Committee To Probe Market Issues

Law360, New York (May 11, 2010, 11:29 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission announced Tuesday the formation of a joint committee to address emerging regulatory issues as part of an effort to harmonize the two agencies' approaches.

The agencies said their first order of business would be to analyze the causes of Thursday's market volatility, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped nearly 1,000 points and then made a nearly 700-point comeback in a 15-minute period.
