N.Y. Bar Slams Mandatory Retirement At Firms

Law360 (January 19, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The New York State Bar Association weighed in Friday on controversial rules at some law firms requiring mandatory retirement for older lawyers, saying the practice short changes lawyers, firms and society as a whole.

In a 43-page report penned by a special committee, the NYSB called for an end to the practice, stating that mandatory retirement – which ejects partners at an arbitrary age – is not an acceptable practice.
