EU Raids Bale Wrap Cos. Over Cartel Suspicions

Law360, New York (May 13, 2010, 1:39 PM EDT) -- The European Commission has conducted surprise raids on several companies that produce bale wrap for the agriculture industry, citing suspicions of anti-competitive behavior.

Officials carried out unannounced inspections on multiple companies in member states of the European Union on April 28 and 29, a potential first step in deeper antitrust investigations, the commission said in a statement Wednesday.

The EC did not name the companies subjected to inspections, but said it had reason to believe the companies had violated rules prohibiting cartels and restrictive business practices,...
