Chevron's Malice Suit Against Ecuador Atty Clipped

Law360, New York (May 17, 2010, 5:53 PM EDT) -- A lawyer for Ecuadoreans allegedly sickened by Chevron Corp.'s toxic waste has won the dismissal of most of a malicious prosecution suit brought by the oil giant, even though another judge had previously sanctioned him for not verifying his clients' cancer claims.

Judge Claudia Wilken of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Wednesday mostly granted a motion by Cristobal Bonifaz to strike Chevron's complaint under California's anti-Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation statute.
