SEC Guidelines On Sanctions Unlikely To Ease Tension

Law360, New York (June 2, 2010, 5:38 PM EDT) -- Defense counsel negotiating compliance fraud settlements with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission often find the lack of certainty in sanctions infuriating, but a set of uniform guidelines is hardly the solution, attorneys say.

While a degree of predictability in SEC sanctions may be welcome, a set of firm guidelines would be essentially impossible to put into practice, experts say.
