Calif. High Court Redraws Employer Definition

Law360, New York (May 25, 2010, 5:05 PM EDT) -- Though the Supreme Court of California sided with produce merchants in a recent suit brought by seasonal agricultural workers, the court's opinion in the matter indicated the state would take a broader definition of employers than had previously existed under California common law.

On Thursday, the court issued its much anticipated ruling on the case, affirming summary judgment in favor of Apio Inc. and Combs Distribution Co. against six workers on a strawberry farm run by Munoz & Sons.
