Ex-State Farm Agents Stripped Of $20M Award

Law360, New York (January 24, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a reversal of fortune, the Missouri Court of Appeals has tossed out a $20 million jury award granted to five former State Farm Insurance agents who alleged that they were unfairly fired due to critical remarks they made regarding the company's treatment of policyholders.

The three-judge panel issued its decision on Tuesday, ruling that the insurance giant had the right to dismiss the agents “at will” since they essentially represented independent contractors that sold State Farm policies.
