Verizon Contractor Faces OT Action By Ditchdigger

Law360, New York (May 27, 2010, 3:13 PM EDT) -- A contractor hired by Verizon Communications Inc. to build its fiber-optic service network is facing a collective action accusing the company of failing to pay ditchdigging laborers overtime compensation.

Ditchdigger Jose Ulloa lodged his complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland on Wednesday, claiming that Global Services & Systems Inc. paid him a flat rate of $120 per day regardless of the number of hours he worked per day or week, in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act and Maryland labor...
