Whirlpool Recalls 1.7M Dishwashers Over Fire Risk

Law360, New York (June 3, 2010, 10:31 AM EDT) -- Whirlpool Corp. subsidiary Maytag Corp. has announced a voluntary recall of 1.7 million dishwashers amid concerns that a wiring problem in the appliances could spark kitchen fires.

Maytag and the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission announced the recall Thursday amid 12 reports of fires caused by the dishwashers, including one report of extensive kitchen damage.

The recall includes appliances from the company's Maytag, Amana, Performa, Jenn-Air, Magic Chef, Admiral and Crosley lines. The appliances were sold at department and appliance stores and by homebuilders nationwide between...
