Major Tech Lobbies Ask USTR To Narrow ACTA Focus

Law360, New York (June 7, 2010, 1:24 PM EDT) -- The current draft of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement could make it easier for foreign companies to hit American firms with stiff civil and criminal penalties for activities that are legal in the U.S., according to a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk from three technology trade groups.

The letter, released Friday, was sent to Kirk by a coalition of major technology and consumer electronic industry groups the Consumer Electronics Association, the Computer & Communications Industry Association and TechAmerica.
