Federal Circuit Revives Oil Drilling Pipe Suit

Law360, New York (January 26, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal appeals court has allowed Hydril Company LP’s antitrust and patent suit against Grant Prideco Inc. over oil drilling pipes to continue, more than a year after a district court threw out the case.

Hydril, which manufactures threaded connections for drill pipes used to drill oil and gas wells, accuses Grant Prideco of monopolizing markets by enforcing a patent that it obtained fraudulently, infringing another patent owned by Hydril and breaching a contract between the parties.
