Iran Hit With New UN Sanctions Over Nuclear Efforts

Law360, New York (June 9, 2010, 2:08 PM EDT) -- The United Nations Security Council passed new sanctions against Iran on Wednesday in an effort to curtail the country's nuclear ambitions, banning more weapons sales, restricting Iranian banks abroad and making more companies subject to the embargo.

Some observers, however, are already questioning whether the sanctions will be effective.

James M. Lindsay, senior vice president of the Council on Foreign Relations, said Wednesday that China and Russia, which have commercial interests in Iran, had ensured the resolution would do nothing to seriously damage the nation's economy....
