Rothstein Gets 50 Years For $1.2B Scheme

Law360, New York (June 9, 2010, 12:36 PM EDT) -- A judge sentenced convicted Ponzi schemer and disgraced former attorney Scott W. Rothstein on Wednesday to 50 years behind bars and ordered him to forfeit his assets — a harsher punishment than the prosecution had requested.

Judge James I. Cohn of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida sentenced Rothstein, 47, to 50 years in prison to be followed by three years supervised release for running a roughly $1.2 billion scheme primarily involving sham legal settlements.
