9th Circ. Revives Contract Spat Over 'Last Samurai'

Law360, New York (June 10, 2010, 3:30 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has reversed a lower court's decision to dismiss breach of contract claims brought by two writers alleging Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. copied their screenplay to make the 2003 blockbuster film “The Last Samurai,” though declined to revive copyright infringement claims.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit remanded the case Wednesday.

The writers, who are brothers, gave their screenplay to a production company, hoping Warner Bros. would buy it, but they were later turned down, according to court documents....
