LaserDynamics IP Case Award Cut From $52M To $6M

Law360, New York (June 9, 2010, 7:48 PM EDT) -- A federal judge on Wednesday slashed a $52 million jury verdict against Quanta Computer Inc. for infringing LaserDynamics Inc.’s disk recognition patent to $6.2 million, giving the plaintiff 10 days to choose between the lower award and a new trial on damages.

Judge T. John Ward of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas ruled that LaserDynamics could not use the so-called entire market value rule to support the larger damages award based on the value of assembled computers using its technology....
