Wackenhut To Pay, Hire In DOL Race Bias Deal

Law360, New York (June 14, 2010, 2:44 PM EDT) -- Security company The Wackenhut Corp. will cough up $290,000 in back pay and interest and hire 41 African-American applicants who were previously turned down for jobs to settle allegations of hiring discrimination at a Wackenhut facility in Colorado, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Investigators from the DOL's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs found that Wackenhut, doing business as G4S Wackenhut, engaged in hiring discrimination against blacks from Jan. 1, 2002, through Dec. 31, 2003, at its facility in Aurora, Colo., a DOL statement...
