USDA Rule Changes Could Spur Meat Industry Suits

Law360, New York (June 18, 2010, 12:54 PM EDT) -- New rules proposed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Friday aimed at boosting competition in the livestock and poultry markets will lead to a rash of bruising legal battles between meat packers and farmers, agriculture law experts say.

Under the proposed rules, a lawsuit under the Packers and Stockyards Act would not be quite so daunting to farmers, ranchers and their attorneys, experts say, creating the potential for increased litigation.
