Apple Faces Copyright Suit Over IBird App

Law360, New York (June 21, 2010, 5:20 PM EDT) -- — whose sound recordings have been used in numerous feature films, television programs and radio broadcasts — is suing technology giant Apple Inc. for using its copyrighted bird recordings in an iPhone application known as iBird that appeared in a national commercial.

Naturalist Martyn Stewart, who owns, filed a complaint for copyright infringement on Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington against Apple and Mitch Waite Group LLC, which created iBird.
